Adventures of an ‘X’ rated moviemaker

The biography of Stanley Long by Simon Sheridan is to be published early in 2007.It covers the period during the 50’s,60’s, and 70’s during which time the cinema industry was going through a difficult time due to the onslaught of television.

The narrative is fascinating reading, and deals with the many aspects of censorship during this period .The making of low budget movies for which Stanley Long was well known is discussed at length, and apart from making compelling reading for the non-initiated it is essential reading for the student of film .It is illustrated with many production photographs from the period as well as previously unpublished pictures of the stars who appeared in the movies.

A pretty nude was on all fours and a young chap, also naked, was screwing her furiously from behind. My mouth hung open in complete shock. I stormed into my living room and saw a cameraman and a group of what can only be described as hippies, standing around, eyes fixed on the naked couple.‘Excuse me! Who the hell are you?’ asked the cameraman
'I just so happen to own this f****** flat!' I shouted. ‘Who gave you permission to film porn here?’

‘We're from the BBC,' said the cameraman, like it explained everything.

‘Hello Mrs. Whitehouse,' I said in a loud voice. ‘I am the producer of a film called The Wife Swappers.'

She scowled at me, her lips tightly pursed.

‘Yes?' she said haughtily.

‘Well, you go on and on about all this terrible pornography corrupting the general public, but my question is how, when you've seen more people having sex than virtually anybody else in Britain, why aren't you depraved and perverted?'

The Festival Hall immediately fell silent, and I held my breath.
