Stanley Long visits Robert Lindsay
in 'The Entertainer' at The Old Vic.
"I went to see my friend and neighbour Robert Lindsay, who has been playing 'Archie Rice' to rave reviews at The Old Vic Theatre in London. I saw the original production at the Royal Court Theatre in 1957 and thought Robert played 'Archie' to even better effect than Laurence Olivier. I think Robert has a wider range than Olivier and was able to bring something extra to the role, no doubt due to his vast experience of musical comedy combined with a great acting talent. I wonder when they will do a remake of the film with Robert?
I am very proud of his contribution to my 'Adventures of a Taxi Driver' in 1975 and I have watched his career rise to new heights year on year. 'The Entertainer' is the latest triumph for one of our most talented actors."
